Lola the hamster wakes up with something important to say.  Special, tender words are on the tip of her tongue.  Are the words meant for Mommy and Daddy?  Or should she say them to her teacher?  Or maybe to her friend Frankie, the Skateboard King?  The day is frustrating indeed as the words puff out impatient Lola's cheeks.  But eventually her powerful, magical words are sure to burst forth.  They'll be worth the wait!

Children and adults alike will cherish this universal story of the joy of saying the words "I love you."  This is a perfect gift for celebrating Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day, or any special occasion.  I Love You So Much is a Children's Book-of-the-Month Club Main Selection.

From Publishers Weekly
Dubois's effectively unadorned, humor-infused illustrations keep this charming tale, an import from France, from becoming precious. Lola the hamster runs the gamut of facial expressions throughout her rather frustrating day, which begins when she awakens to feel "something special on the tip of her tongue." Preschoolers may or may not put the title together with what Lola has to say, but will likely identify with her indignation that virtually everyone?including her parents, teacher and classmates?is just too preoccupied (or, in the case of "the annoying boy" sitting next to her at school, simply not worthy) to listen to her important message. After spending hours sulking?which Dubois depicts with a comic flair bound to further endear the furry heroine to young readers?Lola finally blurts out her long-suppressed words, which "worked their magic" with her suddenly doting parents. Featuring a relatively small trim size and an appealing price, this is a sweet (but not too) little book about the power of love. Ages 2-6.

From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 1?Adorable illustrations create the magic for this simple, sweet story of Lola, a hamster, and the day she searches for the right time to say, "I love you." Especially charming pictures show Lola's cheeks puffed out with love as she drags a blanket down the hallway, where (on the next page) she sees her mother and father kiss good-bye. Later, her mother is too busy for special words, and the school bus is too noisy. Lola's growing frustration over her inability to express herself is delightfully drawn. Each picture shows the little creature more and more distraught, until she finally explodes with emotion at dinnertime. Lola's parents respond generously with kisses, and all is well until bedtime when Lola worries whether her special words will be back on her lips in the morning. I Love You So Much deserves a place beside the numerous other books that deal with the expression of family love because this endearing little hamster finds as much satisfaction in declaring love as in hearing it.?Jackie Hechtkopf, Talent House School, Fairfax, VA

From Kirkus Reviews
Resembling in spirit and content such books as Sam McBratney's Guess How Much I Love You? (1995, not reviewed), this book stars Lola, a nut-brown hamster who could be an adopted cousin of Nutbrown Hare. Lola feels words puffing out her cheeks, bursting inside her, but when she tries to express her special words, her father is leaving for work and her mother is too busy. The school bus, cafeteria, and playground are too noisy for the words to be heard, and the teacher is preoccupied. Lola returns home and sulks until the words unwittingly ``came flying out of her mouth and worked their magic.'' It's no surprise that Lola's special words are ``I love you, I love you! I love you so much!'' Hugs abound among the puffy-cheeked rodents in this mushy, overstated tale and its greeting-card message. (Book-of-the- Month-Club selection) (Picture book. 2-5) -- Copyright ©1997, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.

Wonderful story and illustrations
By A Customer
I purchased this book in Dutch when I was visiting Holland a few weeks ago. I always purchase a childrens' book for a little friend of mine when I travel overseas. Sometimes I'm able to find something in the native language with an English translation. Or, I buy the native language version and get some help with a translation. I spent quite a while looking through the childrens' section in an Amsterdam bookstore and fell in love with the story (which I thought I understood in spite of my lack of understanding of Dutch) and the illustrations. I got some help translating the book and will be curious to see how close my version comes to the published one! The illustrations are wonderful. I think they will appeal to 2-5 year-olds and also to the adults reading to them. There are some wonderful little details in them.

Some times you just have to say it...........
By Deborah L. Woodstuff
This book is wonderful! The pictures are great and the story is lovely.
My 7 year old refers to Lola as the little girl whose cheeks keep getting biggger until the words just have to come out.
The book only takes about 5 minutes to read but the message will last a life time. It tells children, and parents, how important it is that we tell the people we love, "I love you, I love you, I love you so much!"
This would be a great book for new parents to begin reading to their bundle of joy right from the start.
A favorite in our home and is sure to be one in your home too.

A Sweet Must Have
By Leah
If you are like me-bring tissues. It's just so sweet, I cry every time and my son likes it so much that he still requests it (at almost 7).
