Harris begins with a discussion of how to create Excel macros, a simple task that even new Word users can perform. He then shows you how to look at the Visual Basic code that defines the Word macro and build more sophisticated Visual Basic programs.

Great for the VB-ginner

Truthfully, I am not yet through the entire book yet. But this is a very well written book for someone that has a desire to learn VBA programming with Excel, or to eventually move into VB. Examples build on prior chapters to drive the message home. Every concept is explained two or three times making it slow to read, but thorough. Each chapter includes a summary, questions and exercises. Do your homework and you'll be getting that raise you deserve! And don't be discouraged that this book doesn't come with a CD. You'll need the practice typing code. However, if you already know what VB is and can make your way around the Editor, I suggest Reed Jacobson's Excel 2000 VBA Fundamentals. I bought that book at the same time and it is on the shelf waiting for me to catch up. I think it will be a great reference for real world examples later on.

Great read!

Such a great read - so many of Bree's books all bundled into one. Where do i start? I loved Catherine, she is such a badass character with attitude!
Cain, this book kept me turning pages until i was finished. I really felt for Cain in this book, he became a lonely guilt ridden man after the killing of his brother all over jealousy.....
Balloons in the Yard and Venom (books 1 &2) in the Twisted Destinies series are amazing a fantastic way o grab the first 2 books in the series all in one package.
The Godfather Tree - this was an awesome book with a twist on the shifter fairy tale with Red Riding Hood.

I have read all these books individually.
I love Bree's writing style and the storylines in each of these books.
Cain's story is a great take on the original Cain. A heart rendering beginning with a brilliant outcome.
Catherine is so Sassy. I just love her and know there are girls out there that want to be her hell I want to be as badass as her.
Twisted Destinies is such an amazing series. Great Characters, romance, villains, and heroes. This series has it all.
I would definitely recommend reading this Anthology and such an amazing price. Can't wait for more of Bree's books.

All brilliant stories!!!

I have read all of these stories and I LOVE them all. They are very well developed and so much fun to read. As in a good book, there are characters you will love and some you loathe. Which is what should be. In this book as in real life, not everyone is an angel. I read these stories quickly, then went back and savored them. I say, with Thanksgiving week on us now, buy it and you will have something to read when it is quiet and time is yours. Some hot tea, a warm comfy blanket and chair and you will be good to go. I may just join you in the reading or rather rereading of them. Have fun!!

Reasonable Choice for Teaching Math

It's unfortunate that the other reviews are mostly attacks on Common Core, rather than actual reviews of the usefulness of this particular book in teaching math. The exact methods and problems used are created by textbook companies, so if you don't like them, hate on Addison-Wesley. Common Core just says what students should be able to do by the end of a grade, not HOW they must do it. (And, most states already had standards in place before Common Core, you just didn't realize it until they had a fancy name).

So I'that said, ll attempt to provide some useful information about THIS book.

Background:

We bought this book primarily because our school district uses the enVision curriculum, and I thought it would be easier for my daughter to transition from the 2nd grade in-school math curriculum to doing the 3rd math curriculum at home if we were using the familiar system. I also got a teacher's manual (on CD) and some games-or-something (also on CD), but we've never actually needed to use them because the student textbook provides decent explanation.

What's in the Book:

The curriculum for 3rd grade has 20 topics, each of which contains 4-10 lessons around a theme, such as Adding Whole Numbers (topic 2) or Solids and Shapes (topic 10) up through Dividing with 1-Digit Numbers (topic 19).

Each separate lesson begins with a short explanation of the concept the lesson is based on which explains the underlying concept, and shows how the answer to the sample problem is derived. It's usually very graphical. There are then usually 4-5 "Guided Practice" problems which are intended for the instructor to lead the child through, or discuss together. The last 2 of these are often asking the student to explain in their own words a key concept of the lesson, and perhaps a word problem. This is followed by a bunch of Independent Practice problems where the student works some equations, and then a set of word problems from which the student must derive the equation to be solved. Usually there are 1 or 2 problems that require a written explanation.

Once per topic there's usually an entire lesson devoted to problem solving. Each topic also has an assessment with 10-12 problems and then a page of reteaching problems.

I've found the lessons to be easy to use. It may, however, be useful to note that (a) I studied a lot of math myself in school; (b) I've taught 6th grade math using the "new" methodologies, so I have a sense where this is all going; and (c) I've formally studied the latest ideas on the teaching of math. So, in a nutshell, I may be coming at this from a different perspective than others.

Some noteworthy points:
* The assessments are really very short. I'd like them to have more problems. (Perhaps more are available on the teacher's manual which I have not accessed.) Also, the reteaching materials are pretty skimpy. Both of these issues could be helped by actually buying the workbook, which we did not do. We extended lessons by using Khan Academy online; this would also be a good source for any necessary reteaching if you were using this book.

* Also, spiraling curriculum is nice, but it does make it so that topics seem to jump around a lot. This wasn't a problem for my daughter, who actually liked jumping around, but might be for children who struggle more with math. But it also leads to the feeling like you're not going into depth in any one topic before moving on. I assume the idea is to build greater depth on each pass through an area, but since I don't have the 2nd or 4th grade curriculums, I can't really see the whole picture.

* It's worth noting that some lessons ask the students to make use of manipulatives which are not included with the textbook. We have made do without these or substituted toys we already own (fortunately we own a lot of blocks). There has been a fair amount of drawing of pictures, but comparatively far less than in other curriculums (IME, not as much as in Math Expressions). I'm personally a fan of diagrams and drawings to illustrate concepts, though they do take more time to complete than equations.

I could see us buying and using the 4th grade curriculum. It's not a bad curriculum at all. But after some research, I've decided we may switch to the Math in Focus version of Singapore Math for 4th grade math, because I've read it goes into more depth and requires more problem solving.

This is the ideal book for parents or tutors. The work is designed to coordinate with classwork but the pages are different than what the child will get at school. The only problem is the adult will have to find the answers unless they have access to a teacher's manual.

Subsequent chapters introduce several lines of debate, and discuss their relation to mainstream axioms such as ‘psychopathology’, ‘diagnosis’ and ‘psychotherapy’, and alternative approaches like qualitative research, humanistic psychology and discourse analysis. Together, the chapters in this book show how, via a process of ‘erasure’, deconstructive approaches question fundamental assumptions made about language and reality, the self and the social world. By demonstrating the application of deconstruction to different areas of psychology, it also seeks to provide a ‘social reconstruction’ of psychological research.

About the Author

Ian Parker was Co-Founder and is Co-Director (with Erica Burman) of the Discourse Unit. He is a member of the Asylum: Magazine for Democratic Psychiatry collective, and a practising psychoanalyst in Manchester. His research and writing intersects with psychoanalysis and critical theory. He is currently editing a book series Lines of the Symbolic (on Lacanian psychoanalysis in different cultural contexts) for Karnac Books. He edited the 2011 four-volume Routledge major work Critical Psychology, and is editing the series Concepts for Critical Psychology: Disciplinary Boundaries Re-Thought. His books on critical perspectives in psychology began with The Crisis in Modern Social Psychology, and How to End It (Routledge, 1989), and continued with Discourse Dynamics: Critical Analysis for Social and Individual Psychology (Routledge, 1992). His recent books include Qualitative Psychology: Introducing Radical Research (Open University Press, 2005) and Revolution in Psychology: Alienation to Emancipation (Pluto Press, 2007).

Hallelujah for Hallelujah Hats!

Being a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent of our Sunday School, I have been able to use Hallelujah Hats in building my curriculum, in the Sunday morning classroom, and summer Bible School.The kids love to wear the hats and the parents love to see them on their children. The most important things about Hallelujah Hats is that the children love their crafts when they are finished and are able to understand the Bible story through the concrete use of crafts. This book has been a great help in sharing Christ's word with the children.
