I really like the Alicia Quigley's books

I really like the Alicia Quigley's books. I ordered this title in advance, was happy to see it on my kindle this morning. Read it, but realized it was not the after dark story. Then got the traditional version on kindle free books and compared them. Same book. I paid for one and got the other. I presume that when Amazon and the publisher work this out I will get the version I actually paid for. If you want the traditional version, you will be pleased. If you are looking for the after dark version, hang in there, I am sure it will all be worked out.

Lady Letitia Morgan finds herself suddenly widowed, with two small children, a tumble down estate and very little money. With the help of her friend Isobel (from a previous book), she and the children move to London to modest quarters. The charade referred to in the title is promulgated by the Marquess of Eynsford, Isobel's friend, who is aware of Letitia's distrust of ton gentlemen. how it all falls out is the story, and, despite the oft used ploy, is a very good tale. The dialog is good, the characters are well drawn and the story moves along at a jaunty pace.

This is a fascinating book that works both as forensic medicine and literature. The first chapter on one William Shakespeare was overall the least engaging. There was more than a dram of speculation, which given the time period and historic record is perhaps excusable. I almost put the book down at that point (a large draft of belladonna with newt urine by pipette). But, persisted and was rewarded. Mr Ross has sound knowledge of the writers, their personal history and works. He also describes the development of medicine and the love of doctors to kill or seriously maim their patients with the orthodoxy of the day. For those who believe science is the only model of value in the cake shop today, it is a lesson on there is no single truth/silver bullet. Science remains experimentation, trial and elimination and sometimes that includes the poor, suffering patient. The doctor cannot and does not know everything and not everything they know is necessarily sound. A reflection for today, will a John Ross of the future be describing chemotherapy or other cancer treatments that may have polished of writers such as Christopher Hitchens. All very state of the art but more primitive than we may understand or give weight to. Reading books such as this inform us it is unlikely we recognise diseases that in later times may become obvious but which we today are blissfully unaware of as we continue to shorten our lives with a range of vices, treatments, lifestyles, habits and environmental ticking bombs. Mine is supporting Newcastle United, which I am told has shortened my life considerably. All I can say is thank goodness I did not support Manchester United or I would have had no life at all! I learned a lot from this book about the various writers and in particular the Bronte’s tribe, Jonathan Swift, Herman Melville and WB Yeats. It made me rethink my approach to their work through the prism of possible medical conditions. Mr Ross is to be commended for some fine investigative/detective work through some very dusty tomes.

Good deal if you rent

Need this for a class he took this summer. Book is way expensive so it's a good thing Amazon rents it. That made it a great deal. They didn't use it much in class so if you had to but it it would have been a tremendous waste of money. Could have used one more week on the rental before having to pay more for it so I had to send it back early but it worked out.

Can creativity and enthusiasm be learned from a smelly, fishmonger?
You bet! One of the most important values I learned from this book is that it's possible to gain wisdom from some of the most unsuspecting places. Never judge a book by its cover... you could be missing out on a lot!
One thing that I will never understand about society is how easily we get trapped into ruts in our professional and personal lives. Yet, we do nothing to rectify the situation. Complaining doesn't count, my friends!
With thousands of business "How-to" books flooding the market, Fish! is a welcome change as it tackles some very important issues in a fun and easily understood manner.
In this engrossing parable, a single mom/corporate manager is given a seemingly impossible task. She is responsible for turning an office that has been described as a toxic-energy dump into an enthusiastic and productive environment.

Postive and fun to read.

This book is such an easy read and story to follow. Very motivating. This was purchased for my daughters summer reading for her 8th grade ELA class. She said it started off a bit boring but then she really enjoyed it and said it was easy to read and follow. They are writing about how they can use the ideas in their school life as opposed to work. She liked it so I went ahead and read it too. I enjoyed it as well. I think the points were well made and can see where trying to implement the ideas in work or classroom would be awesome. I am a teacher and plan to implement the ideas for my students to use and think about when school starts back in the Fall. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs to think about motivation for work or home or anywhere. Try these simple ideas and see what you can do. It is a positive uplifting story.

Love the FISH! philosophy!

In a mandatory training I attended at our University in January 2014, the facilitators of the group presented the four principals of FISH! I loved it so much that I asked for the information about the book. Since then, I have spent time reading, rereading, and incorporating these principals in all my affairs. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would!
I like the four principals of the book, they make sense, are simple, but may not be easy to apply, it will depend on the commitment level of the leadership. Ask yourself this question: If you could work for an optimistic world class organization that cares about their people, would you? I don't know anyone who would say no to that question!
I highly recommend this book to anyone committed and willing to restore the energy and passion in their workplace environment and life! FISH! is a great philosophy that can be applied to any organization. Once implemented, sit back and watch what happens, it's nothing short of amazing!
