Worth waiting for! A MUST-own!

I'm a former model who didn't have a clue about how I looked, until I read this book. Today, my copy may be falling apart from frequent use, but it's the single most-important book to read and understand when you're trying to look your best. Nobody else explains how important it is, to look like YOU. Forget trying to conceal your "faults," Kibbe shows you how they're really your assets! Yes, some of the advice is dated (1980s) but the essence of what Kibbe says is timeless. This book is a unique wake-up to what WORKS.

The Best One Out There

I wasted years trying on clothes thinking they looked bad on me because I was too fat. Turns out it was the clothing, not me. Side note: even if you are over or under weight, it will not change your best style of clothing. Whatever type you are, is what type you are, whether you are fat or thin, it will work.

The book will tell you which fabrics work best for your body type, which cuts, what kind of fit, what kind of prints, what kind of jewelry (and what size), there's even a little on make up and hair.

You will find out details like what kind of pant leg works for you - straight, tapered, cropped, etc., whether your type looks better in flared skirts, straight skirts, minis or whatever. Whether your body type is better suited to mix and match styles, coordinated sets, or something else. He's specific and you'll notice and learn things right away.

He demolishes damaging rules. There is nothing having to do with minimizing flaws. Nothing like 'wear this so your hips look smaller...' It's more of a you're all that, here's how to bring all that OUT, and suddenly, you look instantly gorgeous.

I bought a jacket in a style he suggested. I tried it on, and saw an instant transformation in the mirror, like I'd never seen before. I was hooked.

The cons are it's outdated. It was written in the eighties, and needs updating. The before and afters, although effective, are in 80s clothing. It doesn't change what styles look best on you, it just makes it hard to see contemporary examples.

Also, I had trouble figuring out which type I was. Others might not have that problem.

If he wrote another book, or updated this one, I would buy it in a second. I wish he would. I don't even know if he's still alive. I googled and everything, but found nothing.

A superb resource for researchers in intrinsic motivation

For anyone researching or writing in the area of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation this is an invaluable resource. The first chapter gives a detailed overview of Self-Determination Theory and its sub-theories from the theory's originators, Deci & Ryan. Subsequent chapters by a range of distinguished researchers provide detailed literature reviews linked to theory in a variety of contexts, notably education and the workplace. This book has saved me probably hundreds of hours of searching and interpreting the research literature in this field the hard way! Although certainly an academic text, I didn't find it too dry. Most of the authors write well and their enthusiasm for the subject shines through, (although perhaps this was my impression because I feel the same way!). Highly recommended.

He has been hiking, driving and crawling around the wonderful Ozark Mountains for most of his life, preserving the images he sees on film for everyone to enjoy. Sweet Arkansas hiking...

Very detailed. Sometimes a little too much rambling but definitely a great book to have. It was really beneficial to read ahead a time to help plan length of hikes each day, especially when starting in Oklahoma side since the trail is not as well marked on that end. I then took just the portion I needed for my 82 mile hike that I did this past summer. Looking forward to doing another section this upcoming year and will definitely be using this book over and over.

Interesting conjecture

In Einstein’s lost key, the author explains how modern physics can do to recover the quest for uncovering the true secret of nature. He considers worthwhile to excavate old ideas that existed before modern physics became lost at sea. He claims that around 1911, Einstein held the key to a theory concerning the variable speed of light that would have explained the origin of gravity by referring to distant masses of the universe. He writes that not only Einstein’s ingenious idea needs to be re-evaluated, but also other profound ideas from Mach, Dirac, Schrödinger, Sciama and Dicke, that are closely related to it. He conceives that Dicke gave Einstein’s formula a revolutionary meaning by recognizing that the theory of variable speed of light describes the solar system as well as the conventional formulation, but leads to a different cosmology where there is a Big Bang without expansion of the universe, only light spreads out, nothing else. I agree with this combination of ideas that could fit together like a puzzle and could revolutionize our current understanding of the universe, but I disagree with Dicke cosmology.

I have not necessarily the same opinion as this informed author on every argument but I recognize with him that contemporary physics is in the midst of a crisis, that there is a large dismissal of modern theoretical physicists in profit of a struggle for power and money among high priests of the mainstream. In his other books Bankrupting Physics and The Higgs Fake, A. Unzicker has described in detail how the method of finding laws of nature through excessive calculations has nothing to do with reality and facts. He has captured the frustrations of physicists while laying out a provocative plea for a reality check in modern meta-fancies such as «string theory», «cosmic inflation» and «multiverses». Einstein’s lost key, by exposing an overlap of ideas of prominent physicists which made well-grounded science, is also a plea for physical reality. I like very much this book about cosmology.

Arrogance + horrible style + lack of substance + mistakes + lack of coherent argumentation + a bunch of formulae, thrown at the reader, unrelated and out of context + a bunch of baseless opinions... Would make relativity physicists turn in their graves, at high speed.

Save your money for a good book on relativity if you are interested in that thrilling subject ( see my comment on Einstein's "The principle of relativity")

About the Author
Gerald Corey is Professor Emeritus of Human Services and Counseling at California State University at Fullerton. He received his doctorate in counseling from the University of Southern California. He is a Diplomate in Counseling Psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology; a licensed psychologist; and a National Certified Counselor. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 17, Counseling Psychology; and Division 49, Group Psychotherapy); a Fellow of the American Counseling Association; and a Fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work. Both Jerry and Marianne Corey received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Mental Health Counselors Association in 2011, and both also received the Eminent Career Award from ASGW in 2001. Dr. Corey was given the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from California State University at Fullerton in 1991. He regularly teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in group counseling and ethics in counseling. He is the author or coauthor of 15 textbooks in counseling currently in print, along with more than 60 journal articles and book chapters. In the past 40 years Jerry and Marianne Corey have conducted group counseling training workshops for mental health professionals at many universities in the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, England, and Ireland.

Marianne Schneider Corey, a licensed marriage and family therapist in California, is a National Certified Counselor and a fellow of the Association for Specialists in Group Work. She has been actively involved in providing training and supervision workshops in group process for human-services students and professionals. She also facilitates self-exploration groups for graduate students and continues to conduct training workshops in group counseling with her husband, Dr. Gerald Corey, in various countries. In 2001, the two received the Eminent Career Award for distinguished and major contributions to the field of group work by the Association for Specialists in Group Work.

Cindy Corey is a California-licensed psychologist in private practice in San Diego and on the faculty at San Diego State University Community-Based Block Program. She received her doctorate in psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles.

Patrick Callanan is a licensed marriage and family therapist in private practice in Santa Ana, California, and a National Certified Counselor. In his private practice he works with individuals, couples, and families. Patrick is on the part-time faculty of the Human Services Program at California State University at Fullerton, where he regularly teaches the internship course. He also offers his time each year to the university to assist in training and supervising group leaders, and co-teaches an undergraduate course in ethical and professional issues.

Masters' Rehab Counseling Program Book

Very good book that allows easy reading. Dr. Corey makes in clear in all his books that the reader should develop their own way of handling consumers. Professionals and students should find this book outstanding scholastic material moving into the realm of counseling. There is not substitute for proper ethics.

INSTRUCTOR'S EDITION

This book came with a great deal of tape and "quality resold books" stickers on the front and spine. The book did not look like the picture posted. I peeled off the stickers and found it to be the instructor's edition. However, there does not seem to be much of a difference between the instructor's edition, and student edition. And it was a good price, and came in good timing. Just a warning that it is a bit of false advertising.

Love the whole series!

Little twist for those of us who have read the whole series! You don't have to read them in order, but it helps to have the full back story. Love this author, she has some great characters and a terrific imagination! My only complaint would be that I wish the book was longer, but it doesn't stop me from buying the new ones as they come out! It still feels like a complete story and I can't wait for the next one!

WOW! This was BAD!

Sorry to pan ANY author, but I just don't get it. I tried the sample, and it seemed good, so I gave it a try. It almost felt like the sample, and the book were written by two different people. I struggled through this book, and did not finish it. Asked for my money back. I really wanted to like it. But I could not. Some books flow well, this one was confusing, and boring. I had to go back and re-read parts, because they just did not make sense!! And conversations jumped from one subject to the next with no explanation. Characters kept walking away from each other everytime they had a near adult conversation. It was indicative of their youth, you think they would have grown-up by now!! Then there are the weirdest sentence structures, and a lot of, "he did this", then he "did this", then "she did this" with no emotion, no love. And moronic metaphors and descriptions. When he is about to make love to her, we hear "and then he was at her portal". Really????? I did not feel the love, or the passion. This book was a flop. This author's writing style is not for me.

2.5 Modiste malarkey...

2.5 Elin had been promised to Gavin since birth, she loved Ben, her mother died suddenly, Elin retreated to her family's country estate to mourn. After her mourning period, a modiste appeared saying she had been sent by Elin's father ~ she had in hand a letter written by the father's secretary. I was okay up to this point.

But. The modiste immediately began issuing orders to Elin, insulting her, ordering the household staff about. Now I ask you, what pampered heiress would stand for such treatment one second? What mere modiste would dare to behave so outlandishly? This went on and on. The whole thing was a convoluted lead into the soon-to-come attempt to kill Elin. The rest of the story was pretty fair but the bad aftertaste of the contrived nonsense with the modiste flavored the entire novel for me. And it wasn't even necessary to the plot! Where was the author's imagination?

Another thing ~ during the modiste rigamarole, Elin thought the fabrics brought by the modiste were definitely sub-par. Later in the story, she thought they were oh-so-beautiful. Which was it? Did an editor even glance at this novel?

Otherwise, the story wasn't bad. I don't recommend it, though. Spend your money and your eyesight on another one.

Fun and light with a few twists and some moments of complete self-indulgence

I’ve read the prequel to this series, and enjoyed the literary obsession of the heroine, fobbed off by many as just another pretty face. In this story, Elin has everything every girl should want: a wonderful debut season topped with an engagement to a Duke, making her the envy of her friends. Now, her life is in the country as the wedding plans are being made and her fiancé Gavin has decided his brother Ben must give up ‘playing soldier’ and return home to assist him.

Dancing the line between convention of the time and appealing to more modern readers, Maxwell dances Elin’s former crush, Ben, stirring up her old feelings for him, despite her anger at being ‘abandoned’. Ben believes Elin is too good for his arrogant brother, and he doesn’t appreciate being made to tuck tail and obey his every whim.

A slower pace sets the tone as the history between Elin and Ben is revealed, her father’s plans for her marriage to a peer and the slow redevelopment of their relationship, one that could set the ton on its ear. But, all is not quiet in the country, and whether it is sibling rivalry with Ben and Gavin, a bit of censure of Elin because of her relationship with Ben years ago, or the fact that someone wants Elin dead, the story takes several twists, none of which seem to be noticed by Gavin. When Ben rescues her, and they are able to admit the feelings that still exist, the rather loosely defined love triangle faces another crisis point. Will Elin marry the Duke, the dream of all young women of her station, or will she truly make a match of the century with her fated love?

Fun and light with a few twists and some moments of complete self-indulgence on Elin’s part, a not very kindly Gavin and the true feelings that never seem to fade make this an enjoyable afternoon getaway read.

Just what I was looking for!!! Mountains of knowledge! Be your own nurse!!!

This book was required for my Nutrition class for the RN program. Before starting the class I had been searching for a book with FDA/RDA vitamins, minerals, supplements, conditions, and dosages. Well I shortly found out after getting my book in that this has EVERYTHING!!!! From BMI, health guidelines, etc, you name it, it's in here! This is the best way to know what you need to know, as these days you really have to be your own doctor before going to the doctor with the amount of prescription meds thrown at us! It doesn't matter who you are, this book will help you in every aspect of health that you can think of and is MORE than worth the price! You will learn more about conditions and nutrition than you can imagine from 1 textbook!

Great and comprehensive book for soon to be nurses and medical/dietectics/nutrition classes and majors. Goes into great explanations and examples for how nutrition can work and heal your body and our current medical interventions for specific ailments and how the treat each with nutrition. The pathological expanded explanations make it applicable to real world medical examples and not just learning about nutrition basics

Great read, everyone looking to improve their health should consider this. It's not about dieting people, its just a diet.

This is an excellent read. I should state that I am in nursing school so much of the terminology is familiar. However, it does to an excellent job of breaking down the components of health, nutrients and diet so the reader can stop ODing on vitamin supplements and understand how to treat themselves better for their long-term health and goals.
