About the Author

Rose Weitz is Professor of Women's and Gender Studies at the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University. She is the author of several books, including The Sociology of Health, Illness, and Health Care: A Critical Approach (2012) and Rapunzel's Daughters: What Women's Hair Tells Us About Women's Lives (2004).

Samantha Kwan is Associate Professor of Sociology and a Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies faculty affiliate at the University of Houston. She is coauthor of Framing Fat: Competing Constructions in Contemporary Culture (2013) and coeditor of Embodied Resistance: Challenging the Norms, Breaking the Rules (2011).

About the Author
Satyajit Ray (1921 - 92) was one of the greatest film-makers of his time. In 1992, he was awarded the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In the same year he was also honoured with the Bharat Ratna. Ray was also a writer of repute, and his short stories, novellas, poems and articles, written in Bengali, have been immensely popular. He has published several books in Bengali, most of which became bestsellers. He is also the author of the famous Feluda stories, the translations of which are available in Penguin.

Gopa Majumdar has translated several works from Bengali to English, the most notable of these being Ashapurna Debis Subarnalata, Taslima Nasrins My Girlhood, and Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyays Aparajito, for which she won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2001. She has translated several volumes of Satyajit Rays short stories, a number of Professor Shonku stories and all of the Feluda stories for Penguin Books India. She is currently translating Rays cinematic writings for Penguin.

Feluda - A Great Detective and Problem Solver of Bengali Origin

Feluda or Prodosh Chandra Mitra is very popular Bengali detective character, a creation of legendary cinematographer and writer Satyajit Ray. Feluda is immortal to many readers and his fans. Reading Feluda's action-filled stories and watching his actions in cinemas are very mesmerizing to many including me!

About the Author

Dr. HANIPH A. LATCHMAN is Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida. A Rhodes Scholar and Senior Member of the IEEE, Dr. Latchman is the recipient of numerous teaching awards and has published over 180 technical articles and four books in the areas of control and communication systems and networks.

Dr. SRINIVAS KATAR is Principal Engineer at Qualcomm Atheros, Inc. and has extensively contributed to the development of HomePlug AV, IEEE 1901, HomePlug Green PHY, and the HomePlug AV2 standards. He is an inventor of more than fifty issued and pending patents.

Lawrence W. Yonge III is Senior Director of Technology for Qualcomm Atheros, Inc., chairs the HomePlug Technical Working Group, and is an inventor of approximately 100 U.S. patents issued and pending.

SHERMAN GAVETTE was a Principal Scientist for Sharp Laboratories of America prior to retiring. While at Sharp Labs, he was a member of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance board of directors and was vice-chair of the HomePlug AV Specification working group.

This book authored by a group of academics and Qualcomm employees. They set themselves the goal to provide "a clear and simple overview of key features of the HomePlug AV specification and the associated IEEE 1901 standard". Bringing clarity and simplicity into a complex specification is a tall order, and indeed the authors descend into the acronym-laden details. (The acronyms are listed and referenced in the Appendix.)
The structure of the book is quite logical, working through the layers and "planes" that make up the HomePlug specification, starting with the physical layer and ending with network formation and security. Two more chapters are dedicated to MAC features and Management Messages. Latoya Chandler is a New York-based writer. She enjoys her career as an executive assistant to the CEO of a non-profit organization. Torn...Six degrees of separation

I was gifted this book and I must say it was one of the best gifts I've received.Talking about six degrees of separation,my goodness if ever there was one. I think every last character is this novel was psychotic. No doubt, Tae was she dealt with a lot but it didn't give her no reason to treat her husband that way. Darnell all he wanted to do was love his wife and that he did. Nae if that's how you love your best friends I'll rather do without. Sharon had to be the craziest of them all to do the things she did; with BK coming in a real close second.Walter I just can't with him, I really think that he is the old man BK was talking about, ugh how gross. Nard has to be the sanest of the bunch and that ain't saying much, but at least he had is partner's back, he actually is a true definition of a friend. i won't give anymore away I just recommend you do get this book. I couldn't put it down and I found myself trying to skip to the back just to see what was going to happen. This is definitely a great read.

Explosive and Exciting!

I couldn't wait for this book to be released, and let me tell you it didn't let me down. I've never seen so many people with tumultuous lives. The way that the Latoya has intertwined their stories was nothing short of amazing. After reading this story it will have you sitting back thinking about the people in your life. Lol! I was saddened by the way it ended, only because I didn't want it to, but I look forward to part 2. Great Job Latoya and I look forward to reading more of your work.

"Torn" by Latoya Chandler is a fascinating and highly entertaining read. This is the first story by this author I have read, and I found it to be well written and well edited. In the book so many bad things can happen to people through no fault of their own, while with other people one mistake can haunt them forever. And then, there are many points in the story that I thought I knew where things were going, but now I am not so sure. It really is messing with my head! and I loved it :o) The realness of the characters and plot are what makes this book exceptional and I am anxiously waiting for part two! If you like romantic thrillers, this is a wonderful read.

NOT for children or animal lovers! SPOILER ALERT!

Having read a few of Twain's books before I decided to pick this one up during a bout of insomnia. 99% of the book is sort of interesting, tells a story in a round about way and makes you care for the young girl and the horse she falls in love with. I'm not sure what Twain's purpose was here, a shock piece, maybe, on the brutality of old style bull fighting where a blindfolded horse was used virtually as a target in a bloodsport. But it was very cruel of the author to make us care about these two only to kill them off savagely in a bullring with the child cradling the head of her dying horse in her arms as the enraged bull charges.
Do NOT read this book to a child, do NOT give this book to a child. In my opinion it should have a warning label! That being said, understand that I'm a 56 year old man and this story haunted me for days.

Evidence of Twain's talent!

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I will admit that the end is not for the faint of heart! But true to Mark Twain's style, the book was vivid and creative. I don't particularly like books that humanize animals, but I think Twain did a fine job of telling the story from a horse's point of view.

Horror story for horse lovers

As a Mark Twain and horse lover, I was naturally intrigued by the title of this short story and greatly enjoyed the story until the last several chapters. The gut and heart wrenching ending for anyone who loves children and/or animals is disturbing to say the least, and I don't mind tragedy with a purpose. This was so bad as to keep me awake for several nights after finishing. DO NOT read this to children!

Very Inclusive Content

This is a nicely inclusive collection of philosophical material from a variety of world sources and with a good eye toward gender representation, organized by topic. If that sounds like something that should go without saying, you haven't looked very critically at most philosophy source textbooks.

At least one thing needs refining in future editions, however. The romanization of Chinese names and terms is inconsistent throughout, sometimes mixing Pinyin and Wade-Giles. That's an easy fix, so I hope it gets done.

Concordance to the BIG BOOK of AA

My sponsor told me to start reading the big book. Circling all worlds either I didn't understand or needed clarification for how they were used in a particular sentence. Then I am to write the definition of these words, in pencil, in the margins of the pages. This concordance has been a lifesaver. Because it is particular to the BB of AA, the definitions are relative to how they are used. I don't have to read three definitions before I find the one that I THINK fits. Thank you!
